Profile Project Progress

My team and I chose to make an interview about a math teacher and her struggles through life from all the way from India, to where she is now.  In Kaua`i teaching the 7th grade honors math class at Kapa`a Middle School.  We interviewed Ms. Andrade because she is very inspiring. She has many life lessons to tell her students so we thought she would be perfect for this interviewing project.  We decided to interview this person in particular because of the stories she tells us when we have extra time in her math class.  Ms. Andrade shares inspiring stories to help her "children" succeed in education and life.  She says, "keep your goals high and you can achieve it."  The equipment we used were a tripod, a DSLR camera and lavaliere mic packs.

Her backstory sounded very interesting and we wanted to find out more. When we started asking her questions we realized just how deep her advice goes and how hard her life was. We realized how much we could learn from her and the we got an amazing story and footage.

We used B-roll and Voice over to make the film GREAT.  We shot B-Roll of her class while she was teaching. B-Roll is made up of multiple sequences added to an interview or documentary to make the story more interesting. It is also used to hide jump cuts and soundbites. The B-Roll was used to cover our Voice-Overs. Voice-Overs are clips of someone talking to explain the interviewee’s story and to grab the viewers' attention. Brandi Baligad did our Voice-Overs.

Our team works ok together but the problem is we can't have everyone editing at the same time. So two people can edit and the other two have to do whatever else needs to be done. We can work together better by focusing more on our individual tasks instead of looking over someone's shoulder at what they are doing. I'm not saying this is a huge problem, I'm just saying that maybe once or twice one of my partner Hannah might've done this to me or maybe a few times Mikela did this to Hannah. We can get this done if we stay in for recess and lunch sometimes, but more time would be nice.

We will go from good to great in our rough cut to our final video. We will do this by listening to the critique and adding relevant b-roll to the story she is telling and and by fixing audio problems like the voice over and turning down the volume of the interview. We can also have a student interview instead of the pen story. Overall, we need more b-roll and a student interview. So that means, we need to film.

  3. Hello Haley! Your blog looks amazing. I really like how the pink is like a gradient or rather it switches from dark to bright. Your writing is very informative and clear! From reading this, your team had some problems but in the end, your team overcame it to make a spectacular video!
